Foot drop fundamentally changes the way you walk. Every step requires concentration and the risk of tripping and falling is high. Particularly in the home environment and when climbing stairs, it becomes clear just how restricted the mobility of those affected is.

In our latest video, we show a patient with pronounced foot drop, initially without any aids: when walking, the tip of the foot drags across the floor, resulting in a typical stepping gait. The restriction becomes even more pronounced on the stairs – the foot cannot be actively lifted, every step is unsteady and requires a lot of effort.

In the second part of the video, the patient is wearing the wireless foot lifter system innoSTEP-WL. The difference is clearly visible:
The foot lifts at the right moment, the gait pattern appears much more fluid and secure. Climbing stairs is also noticeably better – more controlled, more stable and with more confidence in her own movement.

Active support instead of passive stabilization

The innoSTEP-WL works with functional electrical stimulation (FES). Electrodes are used to transmit targeted electrical impulses to the peroneal nerve, which trigger an active contraction of the foot lifter muscles. This lifts the foot during the swing phase – exactly when it is physiologically required.

In contrast to traditional orthoses, the system does not have a passive effect, but actively supports the natural gait pattern. At the same time, the muscles are regularly activated, which can counteract muscle loss and promote nerve-muscle interaction.

Suitable for everyday use, discreet and wireless

The innoSTEP-WL is:

  • Wireless and flat

  • Can be worn inconspicuously under clothing

  • Can also be used barefoot

  • Easily adjustable via a Bluetooth remote control

Many patients report a noticeable improvement in their mobility – and therefore also in their quality of life.

Costs can be covered by health insurance

The innoSTEP-WL is an aid that can be prescribed.
In many cases, statutory health insurance companies will cover all or part of the costs following a doctor’s prescription and a corresponding examination. Our team will be happy to support you – from submitting the documents to personally instructing you on how to use the device.

Biofeedback explained simply: how to better understand and control your body

Biofeedback makes invisible bodily processes visible – and this is precisely where its strength lies. Processes such as muscle tension, heartbeat and breathing normally take place unconsciously. With biofeedback, you learn to consciously perceive and actively influence these processes.
The goal: more control over your own body, fewer complaints and a significantly improved quality of life.

However, especially when muscles and joints have been under less strain for a long time, tension, sore muscles or complaints in the musculoskeletal system can occur. This is where electrotherapy can provide useful support.

Foot drop after stroke: What treatment options are there – and when is FES useful?

A stroke often changes life from one moment to the next. In addition to speech or memory problems, weakness in lifting the foot (medical term: peroneal nerve palsy) is one of the most common motor impairments. Those affected cannot lift the forefoot sufficiently – the gait becomes unsteady and the risk of falling increases significantly.
But what treatment options are there? And when is functional electrical stimulation (FES) a sensible solution?
